Ex Oriente Film is an international training programme for documentary professionals supporting the development and funding of creative documentary films from Central and Eastern Europe. The core of the Ex Oriente Film workshop is based on three week-long residential workshops held over 9 months. The first of its three week-long sessions will take place in Split on Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast in cooperation with a local partner, Hulahop, a production company and organizer of Animafest, located in Zagreb.

The first session of the workshop, entitled "Focus and Inspiration” deals primarily with the development of the documentary project, primarily its story potential, as well as researching the potential for documentary co-production and laying the groundwork for project production. Apart from individual meetings, group sessions and film development lectures on storytelling and financing, the first part of the workshop will also offer masterclasses by renowned filmmakers as well as film screenings. These masterclasses and screening are part of the open programme offered to the Croatian public.
