You can submit your work until April 24th, 2018 with our online APPLICATION FORM (applying is free of charge and is only available in English).

Open to: Creative feature length documentary projects in development and production, challenging genres, format and media boundaries. The call is aimed at directors and producers coming from Europe with a special attention to Central and Eastern Europe projects (incl. EU acceding and candidate countries, Post-Soviet states and Russia) and/or for creative documentary projects dealing with stories from Central and Eastern Europe.

About Ex Oriente Film
Ex Oriente Film is an international workshop focused on creative development and funding of cinematographic documentary film. Ex Oriente Film supports daring films that, challenging the boundaries of documentary language, aims to give unique points of view on a world around us.

During three week-long workshops held over the next nine months, producers and directors gain assistance and advice from more than 25 leading filmmakers and experts in the development of ideas, production, and promotion strategies for their upcoming documentary films. Among tutors of Ex Oriente Film 2018 we are happy to welcome the General Delegate of the Venice International Film Critics’ Week Giona A. Nazzaro (Switzerland/Italy), producer and consultant Iikka Vehkalahti (Finland), Head of Studies of the European Documentary Network Mikael Opstrup (Denmark), director and script editor Ivana Pauerová Miloševičová (Czech Republic) and director and producer Filip Remunda (Czech Republic). Among the guest tutors, in its past editions, Ex Oriente Film has been very proud to welcome Vitaly Mansky, Dounia Sichov, Peter Jaeger, Nicolas Philibert, Signe Byrge Sørensen, Joe Bini, Cintia Gil, Nikolaus Geyrhalter and many others.

2nd Session: October 25th – October 30th, 2018 (Jihlava, Czech Republic, within Ji.hlava IDFF); Inside the Production
3rd Session: March 2019 (Prague, Czech Republic, within East Doc Platform and One World IFF); Market, Here I Am!

The Ex Oriente Film programme leads into the co-production session East Doc Forum, where workshop participants will present their projects to European and North American decision makers such as independent producers, distributors, buyers, film fund representatives, broadcasters, as well as festivals representatives. In addition to automatic inclusion in the East Doc Forum workshop, participants will have the opportunity to gain a wide range of scholarships and prizes in the form of direct financial support, co-production agreements, access to leading European markets and partner training.
