The first session of Ex Oriente Film 2018 starts in Trieste

The first of three week-long sessions of the Ex Oriente Film workshop titled "Out of the Comfort Zone – Vision, Space, Story" will take place in Trieste (Italy) from June 17th to June 23rd, 2018. 

IDF received the record number of 101 applications from 39 different countries for this year's open call of Ex Oriente Film. The 12 selected projects cover wide variety of topics  the society divided by the growing population of wolves, story of ex-miner and radical football fan changing his profession after 25 years, teenage girl serching for her national identity or the future of a town on the verge of a giant crater being some of them.

Director-producer teams will be developing their projects with the guidance of recognized professionals. The workshop lead tutors for Ex Oriente Film 2018 are the General Delegate of the Venice International Film Critics’ Week and Visions du Réel programmer Giona A. Nazzaro (Switzerland/Italy), Head of Studies of the European Documentary Network Mikael Opstrup (Denmark), director and script editor Ivana Pauerová Miloševičová (Czech Republic) and director and producer Filip Remunda (Czech Republic).

The guest tutors for Ex Oriente Film 2018 are: one of the most prominent voices of Italian documentary, director Stefano Savona and the producer of his films Marco Alessi (Italy), Paris based Argentinian film director Eduardo Williams, alumni of Ex Oriente Film, director and producer Salomé Jashi, Paris based producer Carine Cichowsky, curator and the director of the Screenwriters Forum Vienna Wilbirg Brainin-Donnenberg (Austria), director and film curator Marko Grba Singh (Serbia) and Italian essayist and storyteller Luca Scarlini. Find more details about the twelve tutors of Ex Oriente Film 2018 here.

The tutors of RE-ACT workshop, which is held alongside the Ex Oriente Film for the first time, are Alessandro Gropplero (Italian Film Fund) and Ana Lampret (The Alliance of Slovenian Associations of Filmmakers).

The programme consists of project presentations, group sessions, round tables (e.g. Festivals and their importance and the role they play in the definition of the contemporary documentary genre), one-to-one meetings, screenings + Q&As, case studies and lectures (such as Music & Documentary by Giona Nazzaro and The Language of Wonder by Luca Scarilini).

The second session will take place in Jihlava during Ji.hlava IDFF from October 25th to October 30th, 2018. The third session will be held in Prague during East Doc Platfrom (March 9th – March 15th, 2019) within One World IHRDFF.
