East Silver at SiciliAmbiente

East Silver has long time partnerships with festivals all around the world. The new partnerships include Slovak festival Cinematik Piešťany, Russian festivals Pacific Meridian and Saratov Sufferings IFFDD and also Italian SiciliAmbiente.

The 10th edition of the festival of documentary films SiciliAmbiente will take place in Italy from July 10th to 15th. The festival offers screenings of documentaries, animated and short length movies focused on human rights. There are two days of pre-festival screenings of documentaries thematically bound to the sea in the tourist diving zone. SiciliAmbiente will screen in short documentaries competition poetic Latvian film Blueberry Spirits (dir. Astra Zoldnere) about ghost stories in a Roma family that spends its summers in the Latvian forests, picking berries to make a living. The screening will take place on July 12th from 10:15 pm. In feature documentaries competition, there will be a screening of the visually captivating Slovenian film The Last Ice Hunters (dir. Rožle Bregar, Jure Breceljnik) will be screened on July 10th at 11:45 pm. The documentary was premiered in the Czech Republic during DocuMonday in art cinema Světozor on July 2nd.

Other three partner festivals all start in September. The international film festival Cinematik Piešťany is focused on European films and also young talents. From September 11th to 16th the documentary fans can look forward to the competition of Slovak documentaries Cinematik.doc.

The 16th edition of Pacific Meridian will take place in Russian Vladivostok from September 21st to 27th. Films of all genres from Asian-Pacific countries are screened during this event. Great attention is paid also to retrospectives of prominent filmmakers.

In the same term there will be the 15th edition of Saratov Sufferings International Film Festival of Documentary Drama, the only festival in the world focused on documentary drama, preferring poetic, experimental, provocative and traditional films with stark stories.

Updated on July 17th 2018:  The Last Ice Hunters received the main award in feature length documentaries section and Blueberry Spirits got the main award (ex aequo) in short documentaries section.
