The Institute of Documentary Film and Documentary Monday bring in July to Světozor Cinema two remarkable documentaries: The Good Death (dir. Tomáš Krupa) on July 15 and Ticket to the Moon (dir. Veronika Janatková) on July 22. Both titles are part of East Silver Caravan which helps documentaries from Central and Eastern Europe to be screened at international festivals.
The Good Death was screened successfully at Ji.hlava IDFF 2018 and especially at One World IHRDFF 2019, where it got the Jury Award for the best film in the Czech Competition. Before its theatre release in autumn film fans will have a chance to watch it at Světozor Cinema on Monday, June 15, from 8:45 pm. After the screening (in English with Czech subtitles) there will be a Q&A with the director.
Terminally ill Janette wants to die with dignity, but it’s not possible in the UK, where she lives. She therefore decides for assisted suicide. She must plan her journey to Switzerland before her rapidly advancing disease makes it impossible. The question of whether we own our own lives or whether they own us is the primary impetus behind this documentary portrait, which shows that death can be good despite the sadness that always accompanies it.

The screening of the film Ticket to the Moon will be held on July 22 at 8:30 pm in the big hall of Světozor Cinema. The film was screened at Academia Film Olomouc and it had an international premiere at Krakow Film Festival. The screening will have Czech and English subtitles and the director will be there to answer questions from the audience.
At the height of the Space Race, almost 100,000 people on both sides of the Iron Curtain signed up to fly to the Moon on Pan American Airlines’ First Moon Flights Club. The world was split into the two realities of the East and the West, but there was just one Moon for everybody. Today, 50 years after the Moon landing, we are still dreaming about space, setting off om various missions. Are the “Moon” generation’s dreams and aspirations the same as ours?
