Documenta Madrid

About the Company

DocumentaMadrid, the international documentary film festival promoted by the Madrid City Council through Cineteca, will celebrate its 13th edition from April 27 to May 8, 2016. As an international reference in its genre, DocumentaMadrid boasts at Official Section a selection of the season’s best non-fiction films from around the globe not yet released in Spain. They will compete to take home the Award for Best Documentary (short and feature length film categories). DocumentaMadrid remains its section Panorama of the Spanish Documentary, focused on our national production. A production increasingly rich and varied both in its proposals as in the cinematographic style. As a novelty, this edition the festival will add a new award in the Official Palmares to the Best Feature Length Spanish Documentary. Provided with 6.000 €, this award recognizes a extensive national production, widely appreciated abroad. Only Spanish documentary films seen for the very first time in Spain at DocumentaMadrid, either in the International Feature Length Competition or the Spanish Documentary Panorama Section, can be awarded. DocumentaMadrid continues in its ongoing mission to support and spread non-fiction cinema as a reflection of the different social, cultural, economic, artistic, environmental and technological realities that exist on our planet, as well as a gathering place for the different cultures and societies of the turbulent times we live in. The selected works – exclusively based on qualitative criteria – give us a kaleidoscopic vision of the global reality, becoming a key complement to works shown at Cineteca, the only cinema in Spain devoted to non-fiction film. One more year, the venue welcomes the festival headquarters, becoming an annual meeting point for industry professionals, filmmakers and the documentary audience. At DocumentaMadrid we are working hard to bring you a festival full of moving, controversial, clever, beautiful, disturbing, inspiring and hopeful images… as a mirror for the complex and fascinating reality around us. See you there!
