Jola Wieczorek was born in 1983 in Poznań, Poland, and grew up in Bad Ischl. She studied media management in St. Pölten and audiovisual communication in Barcelona. After that she worked for Condor Films and Corinna Glaus Casting in Zürich. In 2012, Wieczorek was awarded the DocNomads scholarship for documentary film directing (Lisbon, Budapest, and Brussels). Her short documentary film Letter to Poland was awarded the New Talent Award at Vienna Independent Shorts. Her graduation film O que resta celebrated its international premiere in the competition of the Locarno International Film Festival.
