Czech Docs: Coming Soon projects revealed

1. 2. 2024

Author: Barbora Hrubá

This year's presentation of upcoming Czech documentary projects Czech Docs: Coming Soon will take place on Tuesday, March 26, as a part of the East Doc Platform 2024. Every year, we select five outstanding Czech feature-length documentaries with the highest market potential and enable their directors and producers to pitch their projects to the audience of leading international decision-makers. This way, we help exceptional Czech films secure international release and funding, find partners, and more.

The event is organised in cooperation with the Audiovisual Producers' Association (APA).

Ms President (r. Marek Šulík, CZ, SK, 2024, 90’)
Ms President is a time-lapse documentary filmed over five years. It follows President Zuzana Čaputová's time in office. It captures her role as head of state, partner and mother. We are with her as she negotiates, writes and delivers speeches, makes decisions on the local and global level, and faces many challenges of a divided Slovak society.

If Pigeons Turned to Gold (r. Pepa Lubojacki, CZ, SK, 2025, 80’)
If Pigeons Turned to Gold follows three years in the lives of four relatives, contrasting a childhood with the present fundamentally at odds. A mosaic-structured documentary tells the story of a quest for balance between love and hate, care and self-destruction, exploring the roots of addiction and the possibility of breaking generational trauma.

Dajori (r. Martin Páv, Nicolas Kourek, CZ, 2024, 82’)
The film tells the story of Marie, a Romani woman and mother of three, who is trying to live an ordinary life while trying to help her relatives and community to escape the spiral of poverty and related issues. The film explores how addiction, exploitative business practices and the housing crisis affect one family.

Ent (r. Tomáš Elšík, CZ, 2025, 90’)
Following the efforts of the two protagonists, the film poses the question of whether humanity can change its domineering attitude towards nature. Pavel cares for meadows his whole life, helping preserve rare plant species. While Klára and her canine companions, Viky and Irbis, hunt for deadly bait traps.

Love Exposed (r. Filip Remunda, CZ, 2025, 90’)
The film follows Blanka as she confronts her father, a renowned photographer known mainly for his often explicit erotic photographs, about their troubled relationship. Love Exposed follows Blanka as she visits her father over the years 2020 - 2024. She goes through dramatic ups and downs realising it’s always better to address deep problems rather than to push them aside, causing emotional injury to yourself or to transfer the trauma to the next generation.
