KineDok: 10 years with documentary film

13. 9. 2024

Author: Anna Jurková

This year marks the 10th anniversary of our alternative distribution project KineDok, which brings unique documentary films to unusual places - galleries, cafés, boats or even castles. Over the years, KineDok has created a place for film, discussion and community across Europe. Join us in a toast and celebration on 17 October at Prague's Čítárna Unijazz at 7 PM. Entrance is free!

The evening will celebrate not only KineDok's achievements, but also an opportunity to thank the filmmakers, venues and fans who have helped us build #KinoKdekoli. The evening will also feature a screening of one of the most successful films KineDok has distributed - King Skate!

The film will be screened with English subtitles, the rest of the evening will be in Czech language.

KING SKATE (dir. Šimon Šafránek, 2018, Czech Republic, 79 min.)
Unique archive shots set to a driving punk soundtrack introduce us to the cult masters of the board and their never-ending party ride through the grey days of Normalization. “Stick close to the concrete. Jam through the space. Keep it moving. Skate!” Writer, journalist, DJ, and freelance filmmaker Šimon Šafránek shot his first feature documentary about the rise of skateboarding in Czechoslovakia – a charmingly cheeky yet wise, melancholy, and engaging account of the search for freedom in a society stifled by the communist regime. Unique archive shots set to a driving punk soundtrack (The Clash, Sex Pistols, Killing Joke) introduce us to the cult masters of the board and their never-ending party ride through the grey days of Normalization.

More information will be shared soon. Stay tuned!
