Slovenian documentary The Last Ice Hunters (Zadnji ledeni lovci) tells a story of the present generation of hunters in the Inuit community of Eastern Greenland, the final chapter in their 4000-year-old history. The Czech premiere will take place during DocuMonday in Prague’s art cinema Světozor on July 2 at 8:45 pm. The screening is English friendly (with English subtitles).
The Last Ice Hunters captures the vanishing world of the Inuit communities of Eastern Greenland. With the political interventions, laws, seal hunting bans and global warming taking away the natural environment, the lives of traditional hunters becoming more and more difficult. A visually stunning expedition to the polar circle. The film began as a new project of Jure Brecejlnik, Slovenian director was known for his film Wild One about Philippe Ribiere who is diagnosed with a Rubinstein-Taybi Syndrome, but becomes a professional climber. Jure Brecejlnik died suddenly and unexpectedly during the filming of the The Last Ice Hunters in 2015. The film was finished by the director and cinematographer Rožle Bregar and Jure’s devoted team.
The Last Ice Hunters were added to the East Silver Caravan in June 2017. The film was awarded in the category Best Original Score in a Documentary at the International Film Music Festival of Tenerife (FIMUCITÉ) in 2017. The film was screened in Slovakia during Ekotopfilm festival and in Hungary at the film festival Gödöllő. This February the film found its way to Slovenian distribution. In August the documentary will be screened at SiciliAmbiente and in September at Ulju Mountain Film Festival.
