Synopsis

The protagonists of our film have lived in their new homeland for over twenty years. The wave of Czechs and Slovaks who departed for Britain started at the end of the 1990´s. Some, at some later stage, came back but most of them put down roots, had children whom they are bringing up and they work. Nobody can be sure of the exact numbers but it is thought that there are tens of thousands in the country and without a shadow of a doubt we see here the largest Czech community abroad. After the Czech Republic joined the EU their lives got even better – they became fully-fledged Europeans. But now, thanks to Brexit, they are threatened overnight with becoming second-rate citizens once more. The majority of them still hold their old citizenship. Their only proper ID document is their passport. All those born here speak Czech or Slovak. Using the internet they are in daily contact with their relatives „back home“. But their visits to the old country usually sets off traumas which always remind them as to why they emigrated. They often say that racism starts at the airport. They claim they´d rather go to the planet Mars than back to the Czech or Slovak Republics. Who are these people and what will happen to them? Macro-politics and their impact on ordinary lives.
