Straydogs

For two months, filmmaker Mathijs Poppe strayed around in the Romanian mountains with his backpack, tent and camera. He tried to make contact with the people he met on the way, the shepherds and farmers living high up in the mountains, far away from the villages and modern society. Is the traveling documentary maker welcome in these communities? The distance between him as a stranger and the people that are home in the mountains becomes apparent through the camera. They don’t speak the same language, but they communicate through observation of the other. Câini Vagabonzi takes you on an audiovisual journey of a filmmaker that never finds a place to rest. Like a stray dog, he is bound to be in constant motion, without belonging to any specific place. Being a stranger is part of his identity.
