War in Ukraine

Directing: Juri Rechinsky

Synopsis

After years of working in the Dutch parliament political photographer Pierre Crom decides that “instead of creating propaganda for politicians, it might be more interesting to follow the results of their political decisions”.

In February 2014 he takes a one-way plane ticket to Crimea, Ukraine, one day prior to its annexation by Russia. From this point on he finds himself in the very middle of a rapidly escalating conflict and decides to stay. Start of war in Slovyansk, crash of MH17 plane, tank battle in Debaltseve - he is able to get access to major historical stages of this war, witnessing and documenting it.

As a photographer Pierre was lucky. As a human being he had to face violent events on a scale he could have never imagined before.
