Der Ernst des Lebens

Directing: Jelena Jeremejewa

Synopsis

Niko, Alex and Valentina are children of the 90's. Born and raised in the Soviet Union, their parents decided to move to Germany at some point. This decision was a turning point, a new beginning in a foreign country and a better future for their children. The documentary follows Niko, Alex and Valentina over a period of a year and a half and tells of their disappointments, conflicts and achievements while standing on the treshold between who they were as children and who they will be as adults. They know about the prejudices against lower secondary school students, they know which stereotypes Russians in Germany are given, and they know that for students with their degrees, there are hardly any jobs left. Dare to dream? Loaded with the hopes of their own parents, the pressure of employment agencies and the expectations of future employers, they begin the search for their place under the sun.
