Synopsis
The choreographer Pina Bausch and her Tanztheater Wuppertal are known all over the world. They have performed in Europe, America and Asia. Wherever she goes, she and her company are received triumphantly. In Wuppertal, the home town of the Tanztheater, every performance ends with a standing ovation. But it was not always so. In the early days the audience (and most critics) were irritated and confused. Tumultuous scenes in the audience were not unusual. Pina Bausch, who took up the post of ballet director in Wuppertal in 1972, developed together with her dancers 'Tanztheater Wuppertal', a new unusual and original body language, far different from classical ballet.
