The Boy at the Window

Momcheto pered prozoretsa

Directing: Vladimir Angelov

Synopsis

Ivan Nenov's creative work spans over the major European movements of the 20th century: Cezanneism, Post-Cubism, Classicism. The movie follows the most dramatic periods of the artist's life, marked by historical upheavals of the 20th century. We depict the years he spent in Italy and Germany and also the period of the 50s, the repression years in Bulgaria due to "the aesthetes" of Stalinism - the same people who "rehabilitate" him 15 years later in coy and formal manner. At the end of his life, he remains faithful to his innate keen and uncompromising creativity and sharp social awareness. He is often considered to be the only true dissident of Bulgarian art. This film presents the memories and reasonings of the artist woven into a biographical story, structured as a metaphysical dialogue between the "artist" and his "model", where "The Window", "The Woman" and "The Sea" are regular patterns.
