Synopsis
After the departure of US troops in August 2021, the radical Taliban seized power in Afghanistan. Despite promises of better tomorrows and a willingness to co-operate with the world, the strongly conservative and nationalist movement’s regime is harsh, chiefly as regards women. Education is banned for girls over the age of 11. Women have no access to jobs and must be fully veiled in public. Those who disagree play a very dangerous game. While Afghanistan becomes increasingly impoverished and human rights are systematically trampled on, official Taliban propaganda keeps blaring at full blast.
