Synopsis
For years Sargis had to watch other athletes on TV win the medals he could have won. But as exceptional as his talent was, and as promising as his future appeared, he wasn’t given the opportunity. His request for asylum was refused and his application for citizenship was not processed for several years. His career and the fulfilment of his dreams dwindled inexorably. However, where sport was concerned, he still held onto an irrepressible will and belief in a happy ending. Finally in the summer of 2014, Sargis Martirosyan obtained Austrian citizenship in the interests of the Republic of Austria. Since then, he has fought every day for his great ambition: to win the first medal for Austria in 34 years.
