White House

Bijela kuća

Directing: Ranko Pauković

White House is a film about a specific type of white stone found on the island of Brač, Croatia. Legend has it that even the White House in Washington was built from that particular stone. The story is told through the intimate portraits of five people who make their living working with this stone: a quarryman, a stonemason, a sculptor, a builder of miniature stone churches and a women who makes stone souvenirs. The question is why each continues to spend their time, and earn their living sweating, pulling and embossing the stone, while they could lead a much easier life renting their houses to the growing number of tourists that visit the island.
