Black Peter and his friends

Čierny Peter a priatelia

Directing: Miro Jelok

Synopsis

In November 2011, Iveta Radicová’s government falls due to intra-coalition dispute over “values”. At the beginning of the new election campaign, the web gets crowded with a secret file called “Gorilla” that leaked out from the Slovak Intelligence Service. The file came into existence after the incitements of the so-called conspiracy flat where representatives of political parties held meetings with oligarchs and divided power and money among themselves. Streets are now filled with angry citizens, much like during the Velvet Revolution in 1989, the people demand an investigation and a change of the system, too. The protests last several weeks. They end as quickly as they started. Frustration and anger eventually decrease and the election, held March 2012, is won by one of the participants who took part in the safe house meetings. More than a year after the leak, no one is yet to be accused. On the contrary, journalists publishing independently on the affair and artists dealing with social criticism have to face penalties and charges of several years in prison. Intelligence games of defamation, intimidation and under-the-rug-sweeping has begun. And the voters? They blindly cast their ballot papers into ballot boxes.
Black Peter (also known as “Old Maid”) – is a card game for two or more players. The object of the game is that all players have to get rid of all their cards. In the end, one player is “stuck with the old maid” and loses the game.
