A Real Life Behind the Balcony, or Romeo and Juliet Make their Getaway

Ein wirkliches leben hinter dem balkon - ein abseilen von Romeo und Julia

Directing: Carla Degenhardt

Synopsis

The protagonist Hiltraud Schmidt, a sufferer of a neurological disease, is lovingly called princess by her partner Franz Bittermann. The two of them talk about how they got to know each other and their current relationship; he, primarily through speech and body language, and sometimes functioning as an extended mouthpiece, while she has been trained to articulate by means of gestures and physical activities, such as painting or playing the piano. In a society in which illness only has negative connotations and is associated with suffering or defects, A Real life behind the balcony, or Romeo and Juliet make their getaway, shows almost outrageous images in which physical dysfunction is made visible without being put on display, and at the same time is treated with a gentle touch of fun. A homage to love.
