Synopsis

A city's horizon. In violent movements: first left, then right; it is scanned, searched. The movement stops abruptly, then accelerates, zooming into the city's core. But the city does not become visible; it remains unrecognizable behind the image. This is the perception of an apparatus making innumerable attempts to capture, recognize and possibly understand, all of which fail. The gaze of the apparatus systematically obstructs itself. Its electronic field of view is subjected to interference from frequency and static. In addition, the picture is extremely fuzzy, making no more than a mere guess at the motif possible. These errors, these omissions and obstructions, create and give shape to a vague representation of the subject. They call attention to the apparatus itself, making its presence tangible. The apparatus' optical inadequacy is, at the same time, its aesthetic project.
