Parallel Lives

Parallel lives are lived by people who suffer from mental illness, as they have to hide their inner world from the outer world, else they would face stigmatization, disrespect and in worst scenario isolation behind the walls of mental facility. The movie explores the ways of solving the current state of psychiatric treatment in Czech Republic. The authors of the movie pursue inspiration in three European countries (Italy, Sweden and UK) where the treatment of patients with mental illness has undergone a reform in past, they observe how successful these reforms have been and document their current state, as each of these countries has chosen a different untraditional way. The movie also explores the question of deinstitutionalization as a positive way in the system of patient care.
