And Spain Was Their Last Hope

1936 -1939. Half of Europe is lost to fascism, yet the Spanish Republic resists Franco´s military revolt. Spanish, as well as Austrian protagonists in the film, then very young, play a leading role in defending the Republic. By 1939 the struggle is lost and an odyssey through concentration camps in France and Germany begins for the defeated defenders of the Republic. Six protagonists discuss their experiences in the Spanish Civil War through personal commentaries and private photographs, describing their odyssey through Europe which came as a consequence of the war.
