A Headstone for a Home

Kopjafa a házunk helyén

Directing: Eszter Barabas

Synopsis

The film tells the story of Bözödújfalu, a small Transylvanian village, that was flooded by Ceausescu in 1988 during communism, with the goal of creating a reservoir. The villagers were forced to leave their homes behind. The story is told by them, in the form of interviews. They talk about life in the village, and the experience of losing their home and getting over it. With the various recordings of the lake and its environment we present the place today, in all four seasons. The height of the film and also the ending builds around a lifelike maquette we made of the village, where the old villagers can place the houses and rebuild their long lost home.
