About the Company

1991 Productions is a Tbilisi-based female-led film production and service company. The founders Nino Chichua and Anna Khazaradze develop, finance and produce talented directors’ fiction and documentary films through European co-productions. The company's most recent feature documentary film Smiling Georgia, directed by Luka Beradze, will have its world premiere at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival 2023. Director Levan Akin’s new feature film currently in post-production, produced by French Quarter Film (Sweden) was co-produced by 1991 Productions among others. 1991’s feature documentary Glory to the Queen (2020) - a co-production with Austria and Serbia - was funded by Eurimages and screened over 25 festivals globally, winning the Best Documentary award in Georgia in 2021.
The company’s feature documentary in production 9-Month Contract, directed by Ketevan Vashagashvili, was Spotlighted at Cannes Docs and will be pitched at Sheffield Doc/Fest as The Whickers finalist in 2023. 1991 Productions is also working on the feature fiction film Tear Gas directed by Uta Beria (funded by GNFC and CNC), the feature documentary Berliner directed by Anna Khazaradze (selected for Nipkow 2022 and CIRCLE Women Doc Accelerator 2023), and the
historical miniseries Nino & Iliko (presented at Midpoint 2022).
