Kata Oláh is a Hungarian producer–director based in Budapest. After starting her career in television, she moved into creative documentary and fiction filmmaking, gaining recognition for her intimate, character-driven storytelling and her commitment to mentoring emerging talent. Her films explore themes of belonging, identity, and resilience with striking visual sensitivity and emotional depth. Her latest feature documentary, Narrow Path to Happiness (2023), won the Special Jury Prize at the Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival and was selected for the European Film Academy Film Club’s educational program. The film opened the AKE DIKEA Romani Film Festival, where it also received the Audience Award, and its national cinema release was accompanied by an extensive impact campaign that brought screenings and dialogue to regions with significant Romani communities. Oláh’s films have been celebrated nationally and internationally, receiving the FIPRESCI Prize, numerous jury awards, and five nominations from the Hungarian Film Academy. As both director and producer, her works have reached audiences worldwide through festival circuits, theatrical releases, and collaborations with distributors and broadcasters including First Hand Films, KineDok Europe, HBO Max, and PBS. Kata remains passionate about the transformative power of storytelling and continues to champion diversity and authenticity in filmmaking, nurturing new voices and amplifying underrepresented perspectives.
