Rado Likon was born on 13 January 1949 in Ljubljana. He completed general upper-secondary school in Postojna, where he sat the matura exam. He became intensively involved in film and photography early on, as a school student, and participated at several exhibitions of youth photography at home and abroad, receiving a number of awards. After secondary school he worked as an assistant cameraman for the TV station in Brno and passed the entrance exam for the FAMU film academy in Prague, where he studied film and television composition, i.e. film and television camerawork. After graduating, he found employment with Studio Marketing in Ljubljana. He has been an accredited independent artist as a director of photography since 1978. For eight years, he lectured as an assistant professor in film and television camerawork for directors at the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television in Ljubljana (AGRFT). He established himself as a director of photography during his studies, filming several academy films at FAMU and AGRFT, documentary and dedicated films, feature films and film portraits of well-known artists.
