Marianna Economou studied Anthropology at UCL, Photojournalism at LCP and Film production at South Thames College, in
London.
1985-1998: photojournalist in England and Greece and publishes the book: “Here & There” – the Greek Cypriot community in
London.
1989: photographic correspondent for “The Independent” in Greece, production liaison for the CNN and researcher for the BBC
series “Frontiers” with Christopher Hitchens.
Since 1989 she has directed documentaries with a focus on social issues (migration, education, disability, urban life, ethnic minorities,
religion, family, environment etc) of Greek production or co production with European broadcasters. Her films have been screened in
various international festivals (Thessaloniki, Leipzig, Cinemed, Medimed, SEE fest LA, Docfest etc) and she has received awards for:
“The School”, ”My Place in the Dance”, “Please Listen to Me” , “Bells, Threads and Miracles”, “Twelve Neighbours”.
