Mikheil Saakashvili
Who is Saakashvili, reckless political opportunist or extraordinary leader, who breaks the borders? The documentary is a portrait of Mikheil Saakashvili. He was ruling Georgia since 2003, when he came to power as a result of “Rose Revolution”. Mikheil Saakashvili and his team were considering themselves as founding fathers of new Georgia. They modernized the country, pursued reforms, defeated corruption and strengthened economy.
Saakashvili managed to make Georgia strategic partner of the USA and was trying to free country from Russia’s influence. This resulted in the war between Russia and Georgia in 2008. Saakashvili suffered defeat in war against Vladimir Putin. At the end of his presidency Mikheil Saakshvili lost everything. In 2012 after suffering defeat in elections, new authorities accused Saakashvili of being corrupt and planned to arrest him... Mikheil Saakashvili fled from the country. When everybody thought that his political career is over, Saakashvili suddenly appeared in Ukraine. The country is at war with Russia. At the same time Ukraine is one of the most corrupt countries in the world and that is one of the main reasons of the country’s growing poverty. Ukraine’s problems became opportunity for Mikheil Saakashvili. He claims that he can defeat corruption in Ukraine, modernize the country just like he did it in Georgia.
Kremlin calls him Washington’s emissary, who is supposed to strengthen anti-Russian front in Ukraine. There are no precedents when the leader of one country was continuing his political career in another state... We will witness Saakashvili’s triumph or crashing defeat. Through his eyes we will understand complicated political conjuncture around the Ukraine, where interests of Russia and the West collide.
