Synopse
For years, the Georgian government had been tearing down Stalin monuments, but now new ones are going up. Why is Stalin winning? The best place to explore the question is Gori, his birthplace and home to a large museum which is more of a temple to the dictator rather than an objective look at his legacy. While on one hand there are Stalin worshippers, on the other hand there is also a group of Georgians who have given up on the government’s efforts to just erase Stalin from memory. It’s a great way of looking at how history is being re-written and re-interpreted in the region and how struggles with the past find the way into the present.
