Near my house, there is a retirement home. Its residents often enjoy a cigarette in their wheelchairs or sitting on a bench.
For all these old people, the pleasure is the common thread. As life progresses, mobility is reduced, expectations are getting lower, the stake of these small details is high : it refers to the pleasure of living whereas the old age is synonymous with its decrease.
Lija is a resident of the retirement home in Krsko, Slovenia. After years in this establishment, she clings to her smoking ritual : nothing is left to chance, neither the place nor the moment. To be alone.
Grabbing a camera, she makes us enter her world, between the omnipresence of the collective, the decline of the bodies and the benevolence of the staff.
