A pitching session via Zoom at DOKfest Munich, May 2021. The self-confident yet reserved director Katya Surovova presents her film May it be a Girl and shows a teaser: magnificently shot, the camera close to the protagonists. It shows me a region of the world I've never seen before.
The artistic realisation impresses me. We arrange another individual meeting. I explain production processes, dispel doubts and try to convey my way of producing. Katya talks about her project, about the development of the story. Gradually documents arrive from Kazakhstan. The co-production begins.
Now, in the midst of further development, I believe Katerina, her producer Aruan, and our project itself, will greatly benefit from the workshops by Ex Oriente Film.
