Ilya Blokh was born in Moscow, Russia to Russian/Ukrainian parents, raised in the US and now resides in Berlin. He has made several short documentaries, primarily focused on music. Songs of Our Grandmothers told the stories of several elderly immigrants in New York and the songs they grew up with. 35205 told the story of the DIY punk scene in Birmingham, Alabama and how it has reinvented itself as an inclusive space for many who otherwise do not feel safe in the South.
He is now working on two films about Georgia - a feature about the punk scene in Tbilisi and a short about the Tbilisi protests in April 2024.
