Nikolas Candido (1991, Niterói - Brazil) is a filmmaker and author who graduated from the International School of Cinema and Television of Cuba (EICTV). He studied Comparative Literature at the University of Geneva in Switzerland, where he taught Super 8. In 2022, he completes a Master 2 in Documentary Film at the Lussas School of Documentary Film in partnership with the University of Grenoble Alpes, France. He has collaborated with several authors who make contemporary and experimental documentary cinema in Latin America, such as Celina Escher, Rafael Ramírez Pupo, Jeissy Trompiz and Tetsuya Maruyama. His film Fragments à Céline had its world premiere at Jihlava 2021. In 2022, his film clip featuring the polish pianist Ania Massetti entitled Lumière shot on Super 8 won the best Art Conception Award at the Sao Paulo Cultural Centre (at Super OFF film festival). The Sound of Time, a film in which he participates as a writer, actor and co-producer, was awarded best experimental documentary at Jihlava 2022 in Fascinations. His work Vive les fragments with Tetsuya Maruyama is one of the 21 works selected for Mekas 100, a tribute to Jonas Mekas for his centenary, selected at the Ultra Cinema Festival and the Film Diary NYC festival.
