Suzana Dinevski grew up in Skopje, Republic of Macedonia, where at twelve years of age she became fascinated with filmmaking, inspired by the old, John Wayne western movies she loved to watch with her father. Suzana began her academic studies in film and television production at Humber College of Applied Arts and Technology in Toronto, Canada, where she graduated with honours. In 1999 she obtained a degree in film studies (BFA) from Ryerson University in Toronto, and in 2004 achieved a Master's degree in film and video production (MFA) from York University in Toronto. Suzana has written, produced and directed several short films: TRANSFIGURATION (1997), LABYRINTH (2001), THE CHILDREN OF 1948 (2004), which won several awards including THE KODAK IMAGING AWARD for the Best New Canadian Student Director at the 2004 Montreal World Film Festival and a Special Mention in the HUMAN RIGHTS AWARD at the 2006 Berlin’s Balkan Black Box Film Festival; the film screened at the 2005 CANNES FILM FESTIVAL (Kodak Worldwide Emerging Filmmakers Showcase) and at many other festivals including the 2006 ZagrebDox International Documentary Film Festival in Zagreb, Croatia, the 2004 DaKINO International Film Festival in Bucharest, Romania, and at the 2004 International Film Camera Festival "Manaki Brothers" in Bitola, Republic of Macedonia, and SUGAR PEOPLE (2011), a 52 minute documentary drama, currently in pre-production. Suzana was selected to participate at the 5th Berlinale Talent Campus during the 57th Berlin International Film Festival; at the 3rd and 6th ZagrebDox International Documentary Film Festival Workshop and Pitching Forum; at the 2010 GoEast Film Festival Project Market in Wiesbaden, Germany, and at the 2010 Balkan Documentary Center Workshop in Sofija, Bugarija. Currently, Suzana works on various productions as an assistant director and is engaged as a part-time visiting professor at the ESRA University for Audiovisual Arts - European Film Academy in Skopje, Republic of Macedonia.
