Counterattack
Counterattack starts with the formation of a dance troupe with a special mission. The troupe will take a 7000 kilometres long journey across Croatia in pursuit of demined locations. These locations were extremely dangerous in the past, but now they are supposed to be safe. Only they are not. The mission of the troupe is to perform dance in these former minefields with a goal of emphasizing how important the right of every human to move freely in space is. Dancers are determined to use the beauty of movement and nature around them to send the message that the war is not over until the last landmine dug out the ground. But their courage and activism will be put to the test. The film crew and the dance troupe will meet various people who can tell them whether it is safe to walk into the fields. Deminers, soldiers who had to walk across the minefields during the Balkan wars, landmine victims, political representatives and experts from the government offices in charge of demining… All of them will become protagonists of the film Counterattack revealing step by step an obscure and little-known aspect of the landmine problem in Croatia. The dancers learn about the demining business in which making profit became more important than providing safe land. Are they putting at stake more than they thought because private companies and their interests pushed for faster demining of contaminated areas in order to gain higher profit? This adventurous journey will warn about the deadly heritage of the war that remained a serious problem mutilating, destroying and killing for decades after the end of the war conflicts. Counterattack will warn that, until the danger is fully removed from the minefields, the people living near the mine-contaminated areas are only one step away from death. It will warn that it is our responsibility to speak up against the injustice and corruption in the struggle for better world. Despite our fears and doubts, the moment for that struggle has come.
