About Ex Oriente Film
Ex Oriente Film is an international project-based training program composed of balanced residential and online sessions organised by the Institute of Documentary Film in partnership with international festivals, markets and industry platforms. Its programs consist of two main activities: Ex Oriente Film Workshop and Ex Oriente Film Follow-Up Program.
Ex Oriente Film is an international training program - a creative laboratory for both established and emerging film professionals and talented storytellers supporting the development and funding of exceptional, creative documentaries and documentary series from Central and Eastern Europe.
Ex Oriente Film workshop is designed to foster, cultivate and nourish emerging documentary talents and producers. This professional-based training activity supports the development and funding of diverse creative documentary feature-length and documentary series projects by providing training to directors and producers from Central and Eastern Europe and supporting their connection and positioning within the European film industry landscape. With a strong emphasis on teams and projects originating from low-production capacity countries, the core of the Ex Oriente Workshop is based on residential workshop sessions combined with online sessions for feature-length documentaries (Ex Oriente Feature), and also for factual documentary series (Ex Oriente Series). Up to 12 feature-length and 5 series projects in development or early production stage receive expert guidance and mentorship from a wide range of top international film professionals, with each session of the workshop focusing on a different segment of project, skills and talent development. The course culminates in the pitching sessions of projects at the East Doc Forum at the East Doc Platform co-production market, featuring the final pitching in front of the leading content commissioning editors, independent producers, sales agents, and festival and film fund representatives.
Ex Oriente Film Follow-Up
A year-long program designed especially for the Ex Oriente Film alumni participants and their projects. The program is open to both producers and directors and consists of online educational and inspirational content, curated residential delegations, tailor-made mentoring and peer-to-peer activities that former participants can take advantage of until the completion of their project.
