Czech Docs: Coming Soon Projects Revealed

20. 1. 2025

Author: Anna Jurková

What is new in the sphere of Czech documentary filmmaking, and what can we look forward to in the future?  Five upcoming Czech feature-length documentaries will be presented on March 17 at 5.30 PM by their producer-director team at Kino 35 (French Institute in Prague) during the East Doc Platform 2025.

Every year, we select five outstanding Czech documentaries with the highest market potential and enable their directors and producers to pitch their projects to the audience consisting of the general public, representatives of leading international film festivals, sales agents, distributors and other film professionals. This way, we help exceptional Czech films secure international release and funding, find partners, and more.

Join us on Monday, March 17, from 5.30 to 6.30 PM for a session moderated by Ivana Formanová (KineDok). Admission is free of charge.

The presentation is organized in cooperation with the Audiovisual Producers’ Association (APA).

Presented projects:

Who Is Missing Today? (dir. Květa Chaloupková, prod. Jitka Kotrlová - Frame Films, CZ, March 2026)
Lively situations, authentic diaries and animations create a documentary about the links between man, birds, and the landscape. An ornithologist Luboš Peške explains why the changes in links affect the life of birds - on the level of individuals, populations, and species. The tension emerges between human capability to have a relationship only with a particular individual and the fact that for survival of the species, the individual means nothing.

Land of Fire (dir. Nikola Klinger, prod. Kristina Husová - CINEPOINT, co-prod. Jan Wilde - Zeitgebilde Filmproduktion, Taghreed Saadeh -  Ram Film Productions INC, CZ, DE, CA, March 2026)
In British Columbia, a grieving father’s search for justice for his murdered daughter intertwines with haunting tales of loss, resilience, and spirituality of the wilderness. Amid vast wildfires, vanishing women, and mythology, local communities confront tragedy through demolition derby races and ancient rituals. In this wilderness, where modern struggles clash with ancient lore, lost spirits wander through the burned forests.

How Long Until We Die Out? (dir. Juliana Moska, prod. Klára Mamojková, Wanda Kaprálová, CLAW, co-prod. Matěj Sotnik - Guča films, CZ, SK, PL, March 2026)
How Long Until We Die Out? is a documentary about human otherness, focusing on red-haired people. Juliana, the ‘only ginger in the family’, explores myths and stereotypes surrounding redheads, relating them to all minorities. The film questions the extinction of redheads and all species, highlighting the looming ecological crisis. Through three different perspectives, Juliana reflects on survival, societal perceptions, and the possibility of extinction.

Wasteland Chronicles (dir. Viera Čákanyová, Lucia Kašová, Barbora Sliepková, prod. Anna Mach Rumanová - filmsomnia, co-prod. Martina Netíková - Cinémotif Films, CZ, SK, PL, Fall 2025-Spring 2026)
In Slovakia we register 1200 ecological burdens, 260 of which are in an alarming state. A documentary film by three women directors about the three biggest ecological disasters in Slovakia. A film about a country disoriented in its values and overwhelmed by a dysfunctional bureaucracy, a country in love with short-term plans and empty promises, a country incapable of taking a long-term view of its challenges.

Death of Death (dir. Davis Simanis, prod. Radim Procházka, Kuli Film, co-prod. Gungtis Trekteris - EGO Media, CZ, LV, 2025)
The COVID-19 pandemic, gradual alienation from fellow human beings, and the growing fear of his death make the author go on a research trip to see if there is an opportunity to prolong his life scientifically. That is the starting point of the existential yet hysterical journey to uncover the business of eternal life in today's world. In his journey, an author, who desperately holds to his life, approaches various people, projects, and experiments that promise to escape death and live infinitely or at least for much longer than nature has planned.

Czech Docs: Coming Soon continues to showcase the best and newest of Czech documentary filmmaking and connects creators with the global film industry. We are excited for this year's edition and invite you to join us in discovering the next wave of powerful stories.
