Synopsis
Today, in the time of climate change, political extremes and misinformation, Viktória, a young filmmaker is trying to navigate through this landscape of uncertainty. Just like most of her peers, she is concerned about what her future will bring. How can we adapt to such a rapidly changing world and gather the knowledge that might help us make responsible decisions? Is there anything significant we can do on a personal level? The story of a 150-year-old Austro-Hungarian Arctic expedition gave her the inspiration and confidence to set out on her own journey and turn her anxiety into action. She decided to embark on a quest, exploring the complexities and deeper interconnections of the Arctic region. She follows the traces of the historic expedition and sails from Bremerhaven to Franz Josef Land, stopping all along the coasts of Norway, visiting local and Sami communities, alongside with researchers of these areas. The variety of people Viktória meets provide the episodic characters and stories that always reveal new layers of knowledge. The deeper she delves into the personal perceptions of climate change, scientific research and land use in these territories, the clearer she begins to see that the Arctic is not some untouched place nowhere. It is on our doorsteps, and one way or another we are all connected to it. The first episode follows Viktória as her initial enthusiasm for exploring the Arctic gives way to a better understanding of the region's complexities, leading her to confront the overwhelming challenges it faces while searching for possible solutions. In the second episode, Viktoria and her team engage with local communities through workshops and events, exploring the intersection of science, culture, and industry, while highlighting the international race for Arctic resources and the hopeful legacy of global scientific cooperation.
