He did not only acquire cult-status but also had an important influence on directors such as Martin Scorsese, Peter Bogdanovich or Jean-Luc Godard. "The man Off-Screen" is a journey through the enigmatic life of Edgar G. Ulmer, off the straight biographical path, along detours truth, lies and fine-spun fiction. Amongst others, Roger Corman, Wim Wenders, John Landis, Joe Dante, John Saxon and Ann Savage are presented in the movie.
