The narrator’s uncle Gholam was executed in the years following the Iranian Revolution in 1988. Mrs. Sarraf, the narrator’s teacher, was expelled from the school. The narrator’s uncle, Rashid, commits suicide during the events of the Iranian student protests of 1999. Morteza, a theatre director close to the narrator, gets shot in the lungs while protesting during the 2009 Green Movement. Rana, Morteza’s daughter is now 16 years old amidst the current uprising in 2022. 40 years of Iranian history through the eyes of the narrator – 5 different stories – 5 different tragedies...
