Synopsis
Can literature change the world? This brave and urgent idea is inspired by the work of Radka Denemarková. The film will follow the creation of her novel as well as her life and activities in between writing.
Radka writes by hand, in silence and solitude, by day and night. Hours of activity alternate with hours of deep crisis. She writes at home, on the German island of Amrum, in the Swiss mountains, on Taiwan… She is surrounded by huge spaces that mirror the size of her thought process. We build a visual analogy of her thoughts, the recurring visual motif being her writing hand. This process is the essence of her life.
Readings and discussions cause tense silences and heated responses in different places around the world. It is a never-ending interaction with people; Radka stirs up her audiences, looking at things in detail with her sharp intellect and humour. She goes to demonstrations, signs petitions, talks with those who can make a difference, dances at parties. Always consistent, siding with the underdog.
The feature documentary is directed by Slobodanka Radun, produced by Silvie Michajlova and Ondřej Zima from FILM KOLEKTIV.
