After training as a photographer and video artist at the Willem de Kooning Academy, Ineke Smits completed her Masters in film directing and screenwriting at the National Film and Television School in England. Her first feature fiction Magonia had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and won several international awards. Her second feature fiction The Aviatrix of Kazbek closed the International Film Festival Rotterdam in 2010.
In addition to fiction films, Ineke makes documentaries, including Putins Mama and Little Man, Time and the Troubadour, all of which premiered at the International Documentary Festival Amsterdam and other international festivals. Ineke advises various organisations, including the Media Fund, Creative Europe, and the Flemish Audiovisual Fund. As a script and project coach, Ineke is involved in various (international) fiction and documentary projects, and she is a development producer at the Georgian production company Nushi Film. Since 2024 she is the director of GoGoFilm, based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
