Helmut Grasser was born in 1961 in Klagenfurt, Austria. Since 1980 he works as an assistant director and production manager. He works also as a screenwriter and executive producer of commercials and corporate commercials. In 1989 he founded his own film production company Allegro Film, which he leads to this day.
Allegro Film has produced more than 50 films, including successful films such as: We Feed the World (directed by Erwin Wagenhofer, 2005) or In 3 Tagen bist du tot (directed by Andreas Prochaska, 2006). Between 1996 and 2001 Grasser was a member of selection committee of the Austrian Film Institute and from 2002 to 2006 member of the board of the Vienna Film Fund. From 1999 to 2006 he served as spokesman and later president of the Association of Austrian Film Producers (AAFP). Since 2002 he is member of the European Film Academy. Together with other Austrian filmmakers he founded Austrian Film Academy in 2009. For his only directorial achievement yet, a documentary film Die Wahlkämpfer (1993), he won the Prix Europa.
Lives and works in Vienna as a producer.
