David Kinsella (b. 1964), is originally a stills-photographer from Belfast, presently living in Norway. He is highly merited and has won many of the most prestigious awards for his work worldwide. He was Documentary Press Photographer of the Year several times since he won the price the first time at the age of 16 in 1981. He's also won both The Great Picture Contest in the USA and the Fuji Press Photographer prize. He made his debut as a documentary filmmaker with the thought-provoking Love Leters from a Childrens Prison in 2005. His focus on the conditions for children and youth in countries formerly part of the Soviet Union has since become a staple of his efforts as a documentarist, as he explored this further in his two next documentaries, A Beautiful Tragedy and Killing Girls (both 2008), as well. All films have been well received at festivals around the world, and have won several awards. Kinsella is an exciting new voice in the world of documentary film, a voice with a distinct personal character, loaded with Irish emotion.
