The Institute of Documentary Film (IDF) is committed to sustainable event management and operates in accordance with the ISO 20121:2024 standard. As the first organization in the Czech documentary field to adopt this approach, IDF integrates sustainability principles into all aspects of its event planning and execution, reinforcing its dedication to responsible and ethical practices.

We foster an inclusive and creative environment where everyone involved—whether filmmakers, lecturers, participants, or staff—has the freedom to contribute ideas, engage meaningfully, and inspire responsible practices. Our approach promotes environmental awareness and social responsibility, ensuring that all stakeholders in documentary filmmaking are treated equitably, regardless of nationality, race, or gender.
Locations
Sustainability is a key factor in venue selection. IDF prioritizes cost-effective and energy-efficient locations with strong waste reduction practices and accessibility via public transport. Contracts with venues include sustainability clauses, and whenever possible, materials are sourced locally to minimize transportation-related emissions.
Production
We actively work to reduce the environmental footprint of our events. Digital materials take precedence over printed materials, and waste reduction strategies—such as recycling and minimizing plastic use—are strictly implemented. Energy and water conservation measures, including reducing single-use plastics and monitoring consumption, are enforced. At the conclusion of each event, IDF conducts sustainability evaluations, ensures responsible waste disposal, and facilitates food donations where feasible.
By adhering to these sustainability principles, IDF not only leads by example in the Czech Republic but also encourages the broader film industry to embrace responsible event management.
