Ex Oriente Film 2021 is waiting for your projects!

Creative feature-length documentary projects and docuseries from the region of Central and Eastern Europe in development and early production, challenging genres, format and media boundaries are welcome to apply for free to the Ex Oriente Film workshop 2021. The deadline is April 23.

You can submit your projects until April 23, 2021, via our online APPLICATION FORM (applying is free of charge and is only available in English). Before applying, please read the Guidelines and also see the List of eligible countries.

During three week-long sessions held over nine months, producers and directors gain assistance and advice from more than 25 experienced filmmakers and experts in the development of ideas, production, and promotion strategies for their documentary projects. Workshop lead tutors are Iikka Vehkalahti, Mikael Opstrup, Ivana Pauerová Miloševičová and Filip Remunda.

Workshop timeline:
1st Session: Find Your Way – Vision, Space and Storytelling, June 19 – 24, 2021 (online)
2nd Session: Production and Story Development, October 2021
3rd Session & East Doc Forum: Market, Here I Am!, March 2022

Ex Oriente Film was established in 2003 as the very first training initiative for Eastern European creative documentaries. In the eighteen years of its existence, more than 200 documentary projects from Eastern and Central Europe went through the Ex Oriente Film workshop, including successful films, such as Brothers, The Domino Effect, Blind Loves, At the Edge of Russia, Rabbit a la Berlin, Village without Women, BakhmaroOver the Limit and A New Shift.
You can currently watch many of them online at DAFilms.com as part of the selection of 20 films celebrating 20 years of the Institute of Documentary Film.

Ex Oriente Film guest tutors in the previous editions were directors and producers Viktor KossakovskyMike Bonanno (The Yes Men), editors Dounia SichovNiels Pagh Andersen, Joe Bini and Phil Jandaly, directors Anja Salomonowitz, Salomé Jashi and Robert Kirchhoff, Doclisboa director Cintia Gil and KVIFF artistic director Karel Och, among many others.

Have you recently finished your documentary film? Apply for East Silver 2021 documentary market specialized in Eastern and Central European documentary film. Submit your final cuts until May 31. The deadline for projects in the rough cut stage is July 31. The East Silver Market submission is valid for Ji.hlava IDFF and the application is free of charge.
