23. 4. 2021

Author: Veronika Zýková

Join us on Wednesday, April 28, at 7 pm (GMT+1) for a panel discussion about Challenges of Independent Cinemas with Directors/Programmers of three cinemas in the Czech Republic, Germany and Romania.

Livestream

Cinemas in many countries are still closed due to the pandemic. We miss the collective experience of being with others in the cinema so much, all the emotions that we are able to share while watching a film together on a big screen, with the best quality sound and image. How is it for cinema owners and cinema programmers who cannot welcome their audience for many months? Are they able to switch to the online space and replicate the cinema experience? Do people attend virtual cinema screenings in high numbers? Can cinemas survive severe income cuts? What new challenges are waiting for the cinemas in the future once they fully reopen?

These will be some of the topics discussed by:
⚬ Barbora Kucsa Prágerová, Director of Cinema Metro 70, Prostějov (CZ)
⚬ Mirona Radu, Film Programmer & Coordinator of Peasant Museum Cinema, Bucharest (RO)
⚬ Mustafa El Mesaoudi, Managing Director of Rex Cinema, Wuppertal (DE).

All these cinemas are members of the Europa Cinemas network.

The panel discussion will be moderated by:
⚬ Steve Rickinson, Communications Manager/Industry Editor of Modern Times Review.

The discussion is part of the IDF Industry Sessions series, organized by the Institute of Documentary Film in Prague.
