The Institute of Documentary Film (IDF) is bringing together film professionals from Central and Eastern Europe and puts a spotlight on the emerging talents of the region through the Talent Hub CEE, the presentation of a survey on documentary markets together with DAE - Documentary Association of Europe and the first session of the Ex Oriente Film workshop at this year’s international marketplace Sunny Side of the Doc (running online 21 - 24 June).

Talent Hub and CEE Delegation
At this year’s event, the IDF is a sponsor of the Talent Hub: Central and Eastern Europe. Together with partners from the Balkan Documentary Center, MADOKE (Hungary), APA - Audiovisual Producers' Association (Czech Republic), Slovak Film Institute and Krakow Film Foundation, the IDF presents a catalogue of over 40 upcoming projects from Central and Eastern Europe to industry professionalls from around the globe, in order to help them build new connections on an international level. The projects are looking for funding, co-production, sales and distribution partners. On Wednesday, June 23rd at 5.30 pm (CEST/UTC+2), the Talent Hub CEE will showcase 5 selected projects in development and production.

Zdeněk Blaha, Programme Director of the IDF, says: “It is very symbolic for us to sponsor the CEE Talent Hub, which will present festival visitors with some of the new talents coming from our region, because this year we celebrate our 20th anniversary. And what would be better than to celebrate with good films and new talents?”

Meet the Central & Eastern European Delegation
Wednesday 23rd from 3.30-4.30pm (CEST/UTC+2)

Thanks to a joint collaboration of film institutes and organizations from Central and Eastern Europe, an extensive delegation of producers from this region is attending the market with their projects in search of partners. What are the conditions for filmmakers in Central and Eastern Europe? Where to go to find projects and co-production partners? Who are the key players in the region? These and many other questions will be answered in this presentation of the CEE region by the representatives of the following organizations: Zdenek Blaha - Institute of Documentary Film (CZ), Martichka Bozhilova - Balkan Documentary Center (BG), Silvia Panakova ARINA Ltd. (SK), Radim Procházka APA – Audiovisual Producers' Association (CZ), Julianna Ugrin - MADOKE (HU), and Katarzyna Wilk Krakow Film Foundation / Polish Docs (PL). The opening keynote will be done by Brigid O’Shea DAE – Documentary Association of Europe (DE).

The outcome of the survey Movements of Central and Eastern European Projects via European Documentary Markets, conducted between January and March 2021 by the IDF in collaboration with DAE – Documentary Association of Europe, will be presented as part of the Meet the Central & Easter European Delegation panel on Wednesday, June 23, 3.30 to 4.30 pm (CEST/UTC+2). The aim of the survey was to map the circulation of Central and Eastern European projects through European film markets and the access of CEE projects to international partners. How are they represented outside of their countries of origins? Do they have access to the film markets in Western Europe, or is their access limited only to the CEE region? What is the percentage of CEE projects at the international markets and which are the key places for these projects?
